The social grant is a grant received by millions of citizens In South Africa; millions depend on this money to help them either due to adults unable to care for themselves, medical conditions (disability), children who have parents that are unemployed and old age.

This grant has brought hope for many people it helps;
- Parents to pay for children school fees
- Put food on the table
- See to their own personal needs
- Medical fees etc
This grant is there to help many in need and yet there are still people using this to their advantage to bribe people out of their money. Fraudsters with the help of inside information use peoples identity’s to claim the social grant. The people working on the inside sent applicants letters of disapproval for their grants meanwhile they make use of the applicants money. Many people who really suffer cannot even receive the help of The South African Social Grant Service due to their own people committing these crimes.
Many people view social grant fraud as something small but the fact remains that it has a major impact on South Africans growth. This affects South Africa in may ways;
- It leads to poverty
- Poverty leads to the increase of crime
- Due to no funding for children’s futures the illiteracy rate increases
- At the end this leads to a high rate of unemployment and then the country’s growth and development gets affected.
- So does diseases because of lack of information and education
- This than leads to a lot of political unrest due to them also being a part of the high rates of corruption in the country.
Social grants have helped in the development of this country and every time we turn a blind eye to this fraud the more we put our country in shambles. Those responsible have not only exploited the individual’s victim to the crime but the nation as a whole.

Greed is the cause of poverty
the future of our country looks bleek and all we do as victims is sit back and watch. no change will come and we will suffer in time. it is time to finally put our foot down and save this country for us and generations to come

DeleteI have to disagree with you when you say greed is the cause of poverty...from my side they can do a lot of things with the social grant money, even though it is not enough. Until we stop relaying on the governement then we can say that we are a steady nation. poverty is caused by so many factors but certainly not greed.

ReplyDelete@Refi M i understand the point you are trying to make but my point behind the slogan used is that there are a few who really need the money and make appropriate use of the money and there are those who misuse it but that gives nobody the right to steal that money. There are those who cannot help themselves and despite the fact that some people feel that there is some who can help themselves what is suggested to be done for those to find other options. Is the government giving thses people allernatives to push themselves forward without depending on the social grant?
ReplyDeleteI honestly believe that the government is doing the right thing by giving out money for social grant in my point of view the government is tryng to help parents that can not afford to support their children and again the government can not control the parents how to use social grant,in other words the government is helping the disadvantage families.

DeleteI beleive that grants where created with good intentions but are not achieving their objectives,we need to stop being afraid tof tackling poverty head on let us stand up as the youth and refuse to be poor , refuse to waste money on weapons private property tha our country doesn't need if we really are the future lets behave like it.

ReplyDeleteThis is a disgrace, What happened to our humanity? People in high positions are getting used to the style of using poor people to make themselves even more richer. I think a thorough investigation should be done and the people who are found guilty of such disgrace must face serious consequences.

DeleteI must say the grant has helped many who are in-need for it,some families depend on it even though others spend it for personal stuff.And we should highlight this in mind "we can not all be right, there must be few corrupt one's" and this is what is happening in this grant project.

DeleteSocial grant money has brought hope to many families, it has opened does that they thought could never be opened because some families have used the mone to take their kids to college for better future. The corruption behind this is growing simulteneously because some people even get child support grand money for kids that never existed, so my question is that what does the government and SASSA is doing to make sure that this corruption is ended? There are some people who are really in need for the money, while other people are having fun with the money.
